Traveling with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities
Sure, I would love to visit Australia. Thanks for asking! Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia, … I might even want to live and work there. My wife and I both would. But, alas, we can’t. Why not? Well, there’s the money for the trip. But, more importantly, we might not survive the trip. For, at the end, before you deplane in Australia, the airplane is sprayed with pesticide. It doesn’t matter if it might be fairly safe for humans. My wife is very sensitive to pesticides. And, they’re not good for my body’s systems either.
Still, we have traveled, quite a bit. We’ve found ways to protect ourselves and survive being in the midst of other people’s fragrances – their perfumes, colognes, body sprays, laundry soaps, dryer sheets. And, then, where are we going to stay? Most hotels are out for my wife. When, I’m on a travel assignment, I stay in hotels which use less fragrance. Still, the moment I walk in the door when I get home, I have to shower and put whatever clothes I wore, was just wearing, into the wash.
We could just stay at home, I suppose. But, remote work is scarce. And, we love to explore. So, why should we miss out on one of the great joys of life? We still won’t be able to go to the Australia region and some other places. But, as we can, when we can, we like to take a trip or two.
So, wish us Bon Voyage, as we keep Traveling with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.
